Recommendations

Here you will find some of my recommendations for information regarding GMO's, eating clean, avoiding certain ingredients and why, books that I have enjoyed reading, documentaries that have changed my views, etc. Here's to learning more about our food!

Food Inc. (documentary)
This documentary changed my life!
"Documentary filmmaker Robert Kenner examines how mammoth corporations have taken over all aspects of the food chain in the United States, from the farms where our food is grown to the chain restaurants and supermarkets where it's sold. Narrated by author and activist Eric Schlosser, the film features interviews with average Americans about their dietary habits, commentary from food experts like Michael Pollan and unsettling footage shot inside large-scale animal processing plants."

GMO OMG (documentary)
This documentary really opened my eyes to GMOs and how they are EVERYWHERE! And this really made me stop and re-examine my food and what I consume.
"A father examines the relationship between genetically modified food and his three young children."

Food Babe (resource)
Vani Hari is Food Babe! In her blog she uncovers the truth behind certain ingredients and food companies, as well as include some great recipes that I also share here.
"Through reading the investigations and information I post on FoodBabe.com, you can expect to learn the truth about harmful ingredients in processed foods and how to avoid the stuff the food industry is trying to hide! You will also learn how to make the right purchasing decisions in the grocery store so that you can create a life long habit of choosing healthy food."

The Eat-Clean Diet (Tosca Reno)
Tosca Reno was the first person that I admired in the "eat-clean" world! Her book taught me all the basics, as well as what to eat and how to eat. She has a great cookbook that I highly recommend and will include some of the recipes here as well. She also has a slew of other books with very insightful information. Check her out!

Gluten-Free Made Simple (cookbook)
I found out a year or so before I got pregnant with my first son that I had a gluten-intolerance. I would bend over in excruciating pain after eating high-gluten foods. So I completely eliminated gluten from my diet...until I got pregnant! :) Surprisingly my body adjusted and I had NO issues with gluten when I was pregnant and about a year after my son was born. Then boom! Hit again! Gluten issues were back! Now I am pregnant with our second son and again can tolerate gluten. I still use gluten-free pasta and other gluten-free items but will also use gluten ingredients on occasion. I will add substitutions to my recipes for those with a gluten-intolerance or allergy.
This cookbook has a lot of yummy recipes that I still use and LOVE and will include in this blog!
